From an early age Cheryl knew she wanted to work in the health sector and suspected it would involve working with children. As a teenager Cheryl worked with a family who provided respite for children with a disability and this confirmed Cheryl's suspicions.
To be sure this was an area she wished to work in Cheryl began employment within a children's day nursery, this was not quite for her so she branched into working with elderly patients in both residential and nursing homes.
Combining the two fields (children and nursing) made Cheryl make up her mind and she applied to Greenwich University as a children's nurse. On qualifying Cheryl was offered a prestigious post at Great Ormond Street Hospital and worked for 12 months on the children's cancer unit.
Her next move saw her working at Guys Hospital on the children's cardiac ward, very quickly they noticed her potential and she was offered a promotion to St Thomas general children's ward. Here she ran the ward, was responsible for teaching and assessing junior staff and nursing students. Cheryl was even featured on BBC's City Hospital on a number of occasions.
On moving out of London Cheryl accepted a job as a nurse manager for a recruitment consultant and main duties included training, recruiting, and providing clinical supervision for qualified nurses.
After a small career break Cheryl returned to work as a resource assistant for the blind. Again noticing her potential she was asked to provide CPR training to all of the rehab team throughout Kent. Further studies proceeded in order to gain the necessary qualifications and a formal teaching qualification was taken in her own time.
Throughout her professional life Cheryl has approached education and training with enthusiasm and has completed Paediatric Advanced Life Support qualifications. Within the clinical areas Cheryl has worked she has needed to use many of the skills she has learnt, Cheryl's motto is no experience is wasted!
